The Lauri Markkanen Master Plan That's Hidden From The NBA
#NBA #LauriMarkkanen #UtahJazz
The Utah Jazz remain one of the most intriguing teams of the NBA offseason. Most fans expected them to trade Lauri Markkanen but he re-signed with Utah on a 5-year deal. The Golden State Warriors reportedly attempted to land Markkanen by sending core players Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga. The Spurs also apparently tried to trade with the Jazz to pair Markkanen with Victor Wembanyama. But what are the chances Markkanen stays with Utah for the long haul while the team potentially lands Cooper Flagg in next year's NBA draft?

    This was a nice one. I agree 100%. Lets say they traded markkanen now, and this next draft, utah land cooper flagg. The very next thing they'd be trying to do is find a player like Lauri 😂 so i think ainge is doing good business. It had to be a paul george type of haul to move off of Lauri

    • @inwestegg
      @inwestegg 4 дня назад

      But the problem is you're probably not getting the Flagg if you're keeping Lauri. That's why the Spurs had to get rid of Murray so that they could successfully get Wemby. In the NBA world, it's almost impossible to have your cake and eat it too.🍰

      David Locke looked at tanking teams and statistically all quick rebounding teams from tank mode had an established high caliber player. That is Lauri. Pistons and Hornets have been tanking for years. OKC slept SGA until they had pieces. 3 - 4 year turnaround for them. Now they git.

    Utah will have 5 first round picks (all 20 years old or younger) in the rotation this year. Tanking with Lauri will not be an issue. The Jazz have filtered through their vets by trading them for assets rather than nothing (Conley, tech, Beasley, Vanderbilt, Olynyk etc). They have been in tank mode for 2 years, they just haven’t been stupid about by trading Pennie’s on the dollar.

      @@inwestegg Fact: Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica. It’s a team game ratio of vets to youth matter. The youth cancels out Lauri’s positive. All the reporters who are actually in the know with Utah have reported Utahs primary focus is player development. Lauri is an All Star, not a superstar. Race for Ace.

    • @inwestegg
      @inwestegg 4 дня назад

      @@malaw514 That's the mistake that the Jazz made. They're paying the all-star a superstar 50 million dollar a year paycheck. He's got the money until 2029 by the way. Of course since they're paying him all that cash, they're going to have to play him as much as possible so he's probably going to get his 23 points, 8 rebounds, and a couple of assists playing more than 33 minutes a game like he did last year. Good luck with getting a top five pick with Lauri, Clarkson, Collins, and Sexton playing most of the minutes this upcoming season with about 10 other teams tanking to catch the Flagg, the Ace, or any other top 5 pick. Yeah the team is focused on developing the youngins but you know as well as I do that you won't be able to fully develop them until the vets are all gone and that will be in about a year or two. Utah gets the first pick in 2026, HURRAY!🎰

    • @malaw514
      @malaw514 4 дня назад

      @@inwestegg Your take is dramatic and incorrect. Utah won’t play Clarkson and Collins as they are actively shopping them, both have been overpaid and treated fairly. Lauri and Sexton. + Kessler, George and Hendricks. With a bench of Sensabaugh, Williams and filipowski. Sprinkle Collier, a washed up Mills and Svi… maybe Eubanks. That team will struggle to hit 20 wins its defense is way too young majority of the tanking teams are in the east so that also gives Utah an edge. Even if the JCs play they would add maybe 5-7 wins. But Utah won’t play them. You are severely over rating this team. Young guys gain experience, get a shot at a superstar in the next draft come 2026 there is growth and experience in place to start pushing for the playoffs. It’s a pretty obvious what Utah is doing.

    The Spurs still have the same main core of their management team from the dynasty era still in office. Unlike the Thunder, the Spurs have already shown to be able to adapt and succeed with winning championships in any era. Sam presti is a good GM but he isn't a great one since he always ends up losing his superstars/title contending teams and has no championships to show for them since he's been with Okc from 2007 to today. So if i was a betting man i'd put my money on the Spurs organization to succeed with this new blueprint idea you mention within the video.

      Exactly Sam Presti is the one who traded James Harden because he did not want to pay him. When J Dub and Chet becomes too expensive he will ship them out to another team that always how he operates. Believe Presti only wanted to give Harden a 4 years 52 million dollar extension and the rockets gave him a 5 year 80 million extension. Presti is such a joke 3 million dollars a year difference really. Guess money is more important to him that winning because any good thing that ever happened to OKC he find a way to screw it up.

      @@Fawnswinethe harden trade was more of an ownership thing really. Owners were still paying for buying the team at the time so they couldn't keep both ibaka and harden. Otherwise they would've because OKC ownership hasn't been known to be cheap besides the early years (OKC was in the top 10 teams by luxury tax paid for the last 12 years). OKC also added George Kaiser to ownership with a 20% stake and he's worth billions. OKC is contending and ownership will definitely pay to keep a contender alive. Another thing that never gets mentioned with that trade is that harden wanted out to be the guy on his own team. After the 2012 finals he went partying for like a week and basically checked out. There was also a rumor harden was trying to sleep with ibakas girl in 2012. Anyways I doubt harden would've been as good with the thunder because he requires the ball in his hands constantly and he couldn't do that with Westbrook and KD on the team. Presti has done a great job besides one fuck up(not really a fuck up OKC was better without harden and would've gotten better if KD didn't bitch out). Name one time other than the harden trade presti has done a bad job I'll wait. As for JDub and Chet did you even watch the video?😂Chet, Shai and Jdub are able to have max contracts. They're also gonna be able to pay out 1 or 2 guys to mid sized deals. Not to mention the big 3 really like it in OKC so I wouldn't be surprised if they take less like how the Knicks have been doing. It's filling out the rest roster that's the problem which is mitigated by draft picks.

    2 years ago Giddey averaged 17/8/6 in only 31 minutes per game. In James Harden's last season with OKC he averaged 17/4/4 also playing 31 minutes. I'm not saying that Giddey is going to end up becoming what Harden did because he obviously isn't as talented but this shows us the potential that he has. He is a poor man's white Magic Johnson. He might average a triple double next year. OKC just made a MASSIVE mistake trading him and Caruso isn't even as good as Wiggins so the trade makes absolutely no sense. They will regret it.

  • @SCYTHE2525
    @SCYTHE2525 18 дней назад

    It was just a matter of time anyhow. Soon as Giddey came up for FA he'd surely wanted to bail so long as he had to play backup to Shai or out of position. His shot isn't terrible by no means. This is not a Simmons situation. He can definitely improve that over the next few years I bet. OKC acquired a potential win/now situation and will just have to consider it a few years down the line once Caruso has outlived his usefulness. And the stat for Giddey in Top 3 under 20 yo to have stats like that next to Magic and Luka is impressive. At such a young age, Giddey should have plenty of ceiling based on that testimonial alone. And Lonzo is a lame duck at this point looks like. I do wish him to recover and would love to see him play again because I liked his playmaking abilities. But that being what it is, they sure could use Giddey.

    Josh will be fine in Chicago if he stays there. Not sure if he is a star but he could be an All Star some day and is still 21. That the Bulls front office couldn’t get a pick from OKC is due to the fact that they just have an awful GM. And Caruso was entering a contract year and was to be moved anyway. Why not trade him for one of the most promising guards in the league? If he develops a consistent shot and starts adding actual moves and countermoves while attacking he will blossom. He jumps to early on straight drives and is relatively easy to defend this way cause he has limited lift to his game. That should be addressed even more than his shooting and the passing will be very much missed in OKC. Make no mistake, it’s up to him to grow into this and for sure he works very hard and is a realist about his flaws. I’m very impressed how he handled the whole last year after his off court drama. Much respect for him and wish him nothing but the best!!!

    We loved Giddy on our team, but he did not match our game and his defense is not as good as you make it out to be. Getting Caruso is a huge step forward for OKC. Thunder are Juggernauts in defense.

      yeah it's definitely about the potential on defense for Giddey right now but the tools are there and he's a better defender than given credit for. Caruso definitely gives Okc what the team needs atm

    This franchise has a rich history of making it's fans look stupid. You are not going to win the NBA championship any time soon. Before you even start, Durant, Westbrook, Harden, were supposed to win it.

    Spurs have the lottery pick of the Bulls (top 10 protected). Spurs could have four lottery chances for Cooper Flagg.

    Too bad OKC doesn't have the VW-CP3 connection. 45+ wins this season.
